‘Video is the new king of content’, ‘this is the year of video marketing’ – you’ve no doubt heard these proclamations and more over the last few years. Everywhere you look, someone seems to be talking about video marketing.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing video is simply another marketing fad that isn’t worth the time. After all, once you’ve got to grips with a great video marketing strategy, won’t another trend take over? Well, the numbers certainly don’t seem to suggest that. In fact, video marketing continues to grow.
But don’t just take our word for it. Writing for Business2Community, Wyzowl highlights these top video marketing stats that brands simply can’t ignore in 2018:
81% of businesses use video as a marketing tool
This figure is up from 63% in 2017 and it will only continue to grow. Wyzowl’s research found that 65% of non-video marketers plan to start turning to video in 2018, up from 34% the previous year. So video usage seems set to jump significantly this year.
Of course, with more adoption comes greater competition. But marketers should use this as a driver to create more engaging, high-quality content and look at implementing innovative new tech, such as interactive videos and VR, to help them cut through the noise.
The average person watches over an hour and a half of online video every day
We’re told that watching video online has become part of everyday life and this proves it. Not only does the average person watch 90 minutes of online video content every day, but 15% watch for over three hours!
While this includes online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, it also points to the growing consumer habit of watching video online, for entertainment purposes as well as to help shopping decisions.
Video marketers aren’t simply declaring the popularity of video, it’s clear that there is a real consumer appetite for video. Why wouldn’t you want to give them what they want?
